UnionStahl manufactured a comprehensive package of steel components for two steel ladles for a client in the heavy machinery industry. The scope of the order included flame-cut parts, laser-cut parts, and components requiring mechanical finishing, made from the materials P355NH, P460NH, S235JR+N, and S355J2+N, with material thicknesses ranging from 10 to 140 mm.
Large-format outer panels as the main challenge
One of the project’s key technical challenges was the large-format shell plates for the main body of the steel ladles. With lengths exceeding seven meters, these parts are among the most challenging components in the entire production scope.
After the steel sheets were flame-cut, they underwent mechanical finishing before being formed into half-shells using metal forming techniques. The precise coordination of the flame-cutting and finishing processes is crucial for the subsequent fit and accuracy of the structure.
These components form the load-bearing foundation of the steel ladles and place the highest demands on manufacturing expertise and process reliability.
