HIC-resistant Hot rolled Sheets with corrosion resistance

Our range of HIC-resistant heavy plate has a low susceptibility to substances containing hydrogen sulphide, to which plants in the petrochemical industry are frequently exposed. Hydrogen-induced cracking (HIC), which otherwise occurs on tanks and pipelines, is thus limited.

Our HIC-resistant heavy plates offer you these advantages

  • HIC-resistant heavy plate (according to NACE TM0284) in P355NL2/NH
  • Thickness tolerance according to DIN EN 10029 Class C

Sour gas-resistant steel grades for demanding applications

In the petrochemical industry, equipment is often exposed to harmful hydrogen sulphides, which can cause corrosion and hydrogen-induced cracking, known as Hydrogen Induced Cracking (HIC). Special sour gas-resistant steel grades have been developed to counteract this problem. These high-quality steel grades are characterized by their low sulphur and phosphorus content and high purity. The heavy plates are normalized in furnaces, resulting in a homogeneous and fine-grained structure that reduces the susceptibility of the steel to hydrogen and thus reduces cracking.

Our sour gas-resistant steel grades are tested for their HIC resistance in accordance with NACE TM 0284. This is done by immersing samples in a hydrogen sulphide-saturated solution for a period of 96 hours, followed by metallographic examination. Crack sensitivity is evaluated using the criteria CLR (crack length ratio), CTR (crack thickness ratio) and CSR (crack sensitivity ratio). Do you need high corrosion resistance for your project? Then we are the ideal partner for you. We specialize in sour gas-resistant heavy plate and stock ranges of ASTM A/ASME SA 516 grades 60, 65 and 70. Our heavy plate is certified with test certificates 3.2 LR. We are the only stockist in Europe to also stock HIC-resistant steel grades in grades P355NL2, P355NH and P355GH. Our plates guarantee resistance to sour gas in the normalized and stress-relieved condition and comply with thickness tolerance EN 10029 class C.
