The initial situation for the development of individual flame-cut parts on behalf of customers. UnionStahl has been working for the market leader in the construction of cold milling machines for around twelve years. Initially, UnionStahl supplied flame-cut parts, but later also manufactured machined components in addition to laser parts. The regular exchange with the customer has resulted in a constant stream of projects in which innovative solutions are sought together. For example, UnionStahl has also supplied so-called clamping brackets for the customer’s own machinery, which were flame-cut and completely machined in cooperation with an external company. This cooperation with the customer has led to time and cost advantages in the purchase of the product. Saving time and costs is the common objective in all joint activities. This is also the case with the current project, the production of prototypes for a new floor panel made of S355 mild steel in a chassis bracket.
As the parts were later to be mass-produced, UnionStahl looked for the most cost-effective way to manufacture them. Machining the surfaces would have been too cost-intensive and would have made the actual product more expensive. The solution ultimately lay in redesigning the geometry. This made it possible to produce both the slotted hole and to apply all chamfers with the help of the UnionStahl chamfering robot. The advantages: No need for further process steps thanks to individual production Thanks to the redesign of the original geometry, additional process steps could be saved. The component made of structural steel S355 was delivered by UnionStahl ready for installation without the need for further processing by the customer.
