Steels for quenching and tempering

In addition, in the tempered steel segment, UnionStahl’s extensive product range is complemented by the materials 42CrMo4, C45 and C60, which are particularly popular in the mechanical engineering sector.

The primary feature of these materials is already hidden in the quality designation, i.e. tempering, whereby special mechanical properties are achieved in the ratio of the toughness to the strength.

Here, the steel normalised in the factory, usually already in a processed state, for example, as a flame-cut part, is subjected to a special heat treatment. This initially involves a steel hardening process followed by quenching of the steel microstructure in a medium. However, to achieve this, some basic requirements must be met; for example, carbon content between 0.20 and 0.60% maximum, as well as special supply elements such as chromium, manganese, molybdenum and nickel.

Subsequent applications include mechanical engineering components, as well as axles, shafts, bolts or other construction elements.

The advantage you gain through collaboration with UnionStahl is that we can supply these elements as flame-cut parts or even as ready-to-install finished parts.
