High-strength steel
UnionStahl’s quality diversity is also reflected in the high-strength fine-grain structural steels group – yield strength 690–1100 MPa compliant with EN 10025-6.
High-tensile steels are used in crane construction, for example, on one hand to reduce operating costs due to their low weight and, on the other hand, to increase load capacity. Superstructures and undercarriages, as well as masts, consist mainly of high-strength, tempered, fine-grained structural steels.
The advantages of high-strength structural steels – high loads are safely and economically resisted with low self-weight – are also useful in steel construction, mechanical engineering and in the production of conveying equipment.
In addition to the commercially available materials S690QL and S960QL, UnionStahl specialises in S890QL and exotics such as S1100QL.
UnionStahl is convincingly well stocked in the standard formats up to 3,000 mm wide and lengths up to 12,000 mm. The stocked intermediate thicknesses (from 4.50 mm to 9.50 mm), which are particularly popular with manufacturers of crane jibs, are also of note.
In order to further underline these special features, the high-strength structural steels are ordered in the specified intermediate thicknesses and materials S960QL/S1100QL with an additional telescopic boom certification (TOL. Telescope 23.08.1989). In addition, this certification also employs more stringent tolerances and is generally approved by most reputable crane manufacturers.
Our claim to quality
In order to guarantee our customers a high level of quality, these materials are only ordered from selected and reputable manufacturers. Product brands such as NAXTRA, XABO, DILLIMAX, ALDUR, etc., are recognised trade names in these materials and form part of the standard UnionStahl range.
In addition to this area, UnionStahl stocks high-strength steels suitable for cold forming compliant with EN 10149-2. These plates are used in vehicle construction, among other things. The cold-forming steels are characterised by their high strength and simultaneous good formability.
With regard to high-strength steels, we have a specialised customer base with stringent requirements. Generally, these are sophisticated structural designs or machine components with special requirements.
