About a project with structural steel s355. UnionStahl has been supplying the market leader in the construction of cold milling machines for around twelve years. UnionStahl started out supplying flame-cut parts, but eventually also added manufacturing machined components and laser parts. Constant interaction with our customers frequently leads to new projects where innovative solutions are sought together. For example, UnionStahl has also supplied locating brackets for the customer’s own machinery, which were flame-cut and completely machined in collaboration with an external company. This collaboration with the customer saved a lot of time and money during the product procurement phase. Saving time and money is the common objective in all joint activities. This is also the case with the current project, the production of prototypes for a new floor panel made of mild steel S355 in a chassis console.
The solution: Redesigning the geometry for the production of individual flame-cut structural steel S355 parts
Since the parts were supposed to be mass-produced later, UnionStahl looked for the most cost-effective way to manufacture them. . Mechanical machining of the surfaces would have been too cost-intensive and would have made the final product more expensive. This problem was solved by redesigning the geometry. The new design made it possible to manufacture the oblong hole and to insert all bevels with the help of the UnionStahl bevelling robot.
The benefits: Elimination of extra process steps thanks to customised production
Thanks to the redesign of the original geometry, it was possible to cut out a number of additional process steps. The component made of structural steel S355 was delivered ready for installation by UnionStahl without the need for any further processing at the customer’s premises.
